Chipper/Shredder Maintenance Tips

To keep your machine in good operating condition, follow the maintenance chart above.  It's also important to purchase original manufacturer chipper/shredder parts when replacement is necessary.  The maintenance tips below will help you maintain your chipper/shredder properly.

  • Check bolts and screws for proper tightness at frequent intervals to keep the machine in safe working condition. Replace if necessary.
  • Stop the engine and make certain the impeller and all moving parts have stopped moving before cleaning, repairing or inspecting. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent the chipper/shredder from starting unintentionally.
  • Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels as necessary.
  • If the flail screen becomes clogged, remove and clean it. Cleaning with a forceful spray is not recommended as it could contaminate the fuel system.
  • Use a brush or dry cloth to clean the chute and around the muffler.
  • Empty any debris before trying to start your chipper/shredder.
  • Turn engine off if it jams or clogs. Disconnect the spark plug and carefully inspect the machine, removing any material that may be in the way.
  • When done using your chipper/shredder, make sure no debris is left inside, allow the engine to cool, and then wipe down the exterior.
  • Change the engine oil after the first 8 hours of operation.
  • Keep the control linkage clean and debris free to prevent control switch malfunctions.
  • Use light machine oil when lubricating.
