Length of Clip:  01:24

This video will show you how to change the mower wheel on an MTD walk-behind unit.  Lawn mower tires and wheels sometimes need to be replaced because of worn bushings, low tread, or broken hubs.  Before you being this project, make sure you have the correct size replacement mower wheel.  Check your operator's manual to find out which lawn mower wheel is right for your machine.  Keep in mind that the instructions for changing a mower wheel may vary slightly for your model.

Step 1: Disconnect the spark plug wire

Before you change a mower wheel, remove the spark plug wire.

Step 2: Adjust your mower height

If your MTD lawn mower has a height adjuster, place it in a position that allows easy access to the wheel bolts.

Step 3: Take off the lawn mower wheel

Using a socket, unbolt the lawn mower wheel and remove it from the unit.

Step 4: Lubricate your lawn mower wheel bushings

Lubricate your lawn mower wheel bushings with a dry lubricant, such as graphite, to maximize their lifespan..

Step 5: Secure the lawn mower wheel and adjust its height

Tighten the lawn mower wheel nut, and adjust the height of the wheel to match the other three.

Step 6: Replace the spark plug wire

After you replace the mower wheel, reconnect the spark plug wire.
