How to Find Your MTD Model Number and Serial Number
Q: What should my MTD model number and serial number look like?
Q: Where is the label on my equipment that shows the MTD model number and serial number, and what does it look like?
Q: How do I determine my MTD model number and/or serial number if the label is missing or illegible?
A: WHAT SHOULD MY MTD MODEL NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER LOOK LIKE?
Current (1997 and later) MTD model numbers and serial numbers are generally 11 characters in length. A character could be a number, dash or letter. If '0' represented all numbers and/or dashes and 'X' represented all letters, the model and serial numbers would appear as follows:
Model number example: 00XX000X000
NOTE: When using the chart below, "a prefix" consists of the first two digits of an MTD model number.
Serial number example: 0X000X00000
|Walk-behind push mower||11|
|Walk-behind self-propelled mower||12|
|Riding lawn tractor||13|
|Riding garden tractor||14|
|Commercial zero-turn rider||15|
|Electric walk-behind mower||18|
|Handheld products (string trimmer, chain saw etc.)||41 or 42|
NOTE: Attachments may also begin with the letters OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). When attachments are packaged to be sold separately from the products they fit, they are given this designation so consumers will recognize that the attachment is from the OEM.
190-620-000 is a dozer blade attachment for a tractor.
OEM-190-620 is the same dozer blade packaged separately for sale.

A:WHERE IS THE LABEL ON MY EQUIPMENT THAT SHOWS MY MTD MODEL NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER, AND WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Identification labels are located in areas unlikely to need replacement, even after years of use.
For most of our outdoor power equipment, these labels are approximately 2" x 3". They list the MTD Products name, address and customer service phone number listed on the bottom.
For handheld equipment, the label is usually white and approximately 1" x 1/2" in size. Labels for handheld products are normally on an aluminum portion of the engine, somewhat set into the unit to protect the label from wear.( A bar code will also be on this tag.)
On MTD riding lawn mowers, you can typically find the label showing the lawn mower model and lawn mower serial number underneath the seat.
On walk-behind MTD lawn mowers, you can find the label showing the lawn mower model number and lawn mower serial number on the deck. On the rear-discharge units, you can find it on the rear door.
On MTD garden tillers, the model and serial number label is generally on the tine housing.
The MTD model number and serial number for two-stage MTD snow blowers are located on the bottom of the main gear housing, which is often called the belly pan. On single-stage snow blowers, the labels are next to the key and primer.
For other products, such as MTD trimmers, edgers, log splitters and chipper shredders, the labels can be found on the frame or main housing.
