Which lawn mower blades are right for you?

Learn more about lawn mower blades to ensure you order the right ones for your lawn care needs. MTD Genuine Parts blades have part numbers stamped into them. Compare these part numbers with the mower's operators manual or parts list to determine if you have a standard or mulching lawn mower blade.

1) Standard

A standard lawn mower blade is designed to cut grass cleanly before discharging the clippings onto the lawn or into a grass collection system like a bagger. Standard blades are often referred to as 2-in-1 blades because they can be used to both discharge or bag clippings.

2) High Lift

A high-lift blade is a unique style of blade designed with larger wind wings which increase airflow and aid in bagging grass clippings, especially on riding mowers with long discharge tubes.

3) Mulching

Mulching blades generally have a more curved surface with two distinct cutting planes along the blade's edge. Older style mulching mowers actually included two blades arranged perpendicular to each other.
When a baffle or mulch kit is installed on the mowing deck to prevent clippings from discharging, mulching blades circulate the clippings beneath the deck where they're cut and re-cut into tiny pieces. The finer clippings will decompose more quickly, releasing nutrients into the soil. Mulching blades may be referred to as 3-in-1 blades or all-purpose blades because they can be used to mulchdischarge or bag clippings.
